This month in honor of Father's Day, I want to introduce you to one of the many men who do Pilates. Read to learn more about Jack and what he has to say about how Pilates has benefited him.
Tell a little about why you sought out Pilates in the first place, and how you found Love Pilates.
I got into Pilates after seeing how much enthusiasm my wife Cindy had for it. You could tell that it was helping and making her feel good. I attended a few of the open houses organized by Love Pilates and discovered a nice group of people all with the same goal; do something healthy for themselves. I took Dena’s Pilates 101 class and found that it was an enjoyable workout that I could do.
When did you start working out at Love Pilates and why?
I Started working out at Love Pilates back in 2016, although I had prior experience with Dena in 2015 (this was before the studio). She would organize free workouts in Central Park for anyone who wanted to attend. My wife Cindy would go to these regularly and would tell me of her experiences. I joined her one time to see what this was all about. In 2016 I took the free introductory classes. I received a little encouragement from a glass of wine at one of the open houses that Dena would organize. In 2017 I took the Pilates 101 class to get a real taste of real classes. September 2018 is when I officially started taking classes. I found that Pilates gave me a good feeling of satisfaction when I was done with the workout.
Describe your workouts. How many days a week do you workout?
My workouts take place on Mondays or Tuesdays with either Kristi or Stacy. I signed up for the 4 classes a month, which for me is sufficient. I usually take either a level 1 or level 1.5 class. I discovered that I have some limitations. I have a hernia in my abdominal area, which forces me to be more cognizant about what exercises I can and cannot do. The instructors are great at adapting their workouts for me.
What is your current fitness goal?
My current fitness goal is to incorporate Pilates into my lifestyle where I’ve been trying to live healthier through eating and exercising. Pilates fits this perfectly.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment was taking a private class with Stacy and having her teach me about my “Core” and how to use it properly. She basically taught me how to breathy correctly.
What helps you stay on track?
What’s helping me to stay on track is the enjoyment I feel when I’ve completed a workout. Sometimes I don’t look forward to going, but something in me says let’s do this. After the workout I always feel much better.
What do you do when you're not at the studio?
When I’m not at the studio I enjoy going for walks in the park and around the harbor to keep me fit. I have also discovered kayaking which has proven to be a good “Core” workout.
Do you have a favorite exercise or favorite piece of equipment?
My favorite exercise usually involves the reformer. Although I do like the wunda chair sometimes. I’m a little less enthusiastic about mat work.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting Pilates?
Do it!!! It’s life changing.
