Meet Dena Lombardo of Love Pilates in Huntington Beach
Today we’d like to introduce you to Dena Lombardo.
Dena, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I developed a love for Pilates over 10 years ago, and decided to pursue a Pilates teaching certificate, becoming certified in 2014. Being a free-lance Pilates instructor is a tough gig with lots of long hours and travel. Since
I’d always had the dream of owning my own business of some sort, I decided that a Pilates studio was just the thing. I can set my own hours (still long) and work close to home in my own space. I opened Love Pilates in November of 2015, and have continued to grow and bring my love of Pilates to my community. We are a growing studio specializing in small classes and private lessons so that clients always receive personalized attention and a great workout.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Owning a business is always a lot of work, and Pilates is no different. Marketing, finances, teaching and interfacing with clients is a very full-time job! Over the past 22 months, I’ve been fortunate to meet many many lovely clients, as well as bring several other teachers on board to lighten the teaching load. The clients love the variety in teaching personalities and styles, and it has freed my up to have more time on the business end. I have struggled with planning and marketing, and with the financial planning end of things. I was fortunate to connect with a great business coach for a few months who was very helpful in setting my vision and direction for the business. I also am fortunate to have a great friend who is also an awesome bookkeeper and more. She’s been instrumental in helping me analyze and plan things on the financial end.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Love Pilates – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Love Pilates is a small boutique studio specializing in small classes and private lessons. We welcome all types of clients, whether you’re recovering from an injury or surgery, have a specific fitness goal in mind, or simply want to work out. We offer classes of up to 6 people, so you always get personalized attention. We also offer private and duet lessons for an even more personalized lesson tailored just to you. We offer our Pilates 101 program for clients new to Pilates as either an 8 group class series or a 4-private lesson package. Pilates 101 is an introduction to the equipment and basic exercises so that clients can join our regular group classes with confidence. At Love Pilates, we believe that every-body is a Pilates-Body. We believe that a few well executed repetitions of an exercise are worth more than many repetitions done incorrectly. As Joe Pilates himself said, “A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of doing sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion.” So, no matter your level of fitness, our instructors are committed to helping you properly execute the exercises in order to get the most out of your Pilates workout. We strive to provide enjoyable classes that can be shared with like-minded people. We offer a safe space for you to begin or continue your journey to optimal health.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are focused on continuing to grow and bring the magic of Pilates to more of our community. We are planning to bring workshops to our clients in the future, so that those clients who want to go deeper into the work have an opportunity. Also, we as instructors are always pursuing continuing education programs to further our knowledge and bring new information and skills to our clients.
